1.
In order to promote academic research on
urology and upgrade teaching, diagnosis,
and treatment standards, the Taiwan
Urology Association (hereinafter
referred to as the Association) has
drawn up “Rules Governing Selection of
Papers for the Contest Sponsored by the
Association's Journal” (hereinafter
referred to as the Rules). The Contest
is subdivided into three categories:
Members, Residents, and Groups. The
purpose is to encourage members,
residents, and hospitals to engage in
the study of urology and publish study
results by writing papers.
2.
The Contest is held once a year. To
encourage members to contribute to the
urology journal, beginning 1990, papers
published in the urology journal two
months prior to the annual meeting are
selected for the contest. Winners are
selected and awarded prizes.
3.
Papers nominated for the contest have to
be the results of a study done in this
country that has not been awarded other
prizes ([those/authors?] having won
other prizes are still eligible for this
contest). The first author is to be the
participant of co-authored papers. There
is no limit to the age of the
participant. Other qualifications for
the contest are as follows:
1.
Entries of the
Members category have to be
Association members;
2.
Entries of the
Residents category have to be a
paper or case analysis written
during residency (including
chief residents); and
3.
Grading of the
Groups category is done by
adding up the points earned by
individual hospitals from all
papers it contributed to medical
journals. The points earned are
3 for commentaries, 3 for
original studies, 2 for case
analyses, and 1 for case
reports.
4.
Ranks of papers of the Members and
Residents categories are decided by the
review members commissioned by the Board
of Directors and Supervisors of the
Association. Ranks of papers of the
Groups category are decided by the
Journal Committee (Review Members are to
be re-appointed when the
Director-General is reelected). The
awarding of prizes is as follows:
1.
There is only
one winner each in the Clinical
and Basic subcategories for the
Members category. Each will
receive a certificate of merit
and $30,000 provided by the
Association’s R&D Fund.
2.
There are three
winners each in the Clinical and
Basic subcategories for the
Residents category. If the
quality of papers is
substandard, there can be fewer
than three winners.
▲ First prize: A certificate of
merit and $18,000 in prize
money.
▲ Second prize: A certificate of
merit and $13,000 in prize
money.
▲ Third prize: A certificate of
merit and $8,000 in prize money.
3.

medal.
