1. In order to promote academic research on urology and upgrade teaching and diagnosis and treatment standards, Taiwan Urology Association (hereinafter referred to as the Association) has drawn up “Rules Governing Selection of Papers for the Contest Sponsored by the Association Journal” (hereinafter referred to as the Rules). The Contest is sub-divided into three categories – Members, Residents, and Groups. The purpose is to encourage members, residents, and hospitals to engage in the study of urology and publish study results by writing papers.
2. The Contest is held once a year. To encourage members to contribute to urology journal, beginning 1990, papers published in urology journal two months prior to the annual meeting are selected for the contest. Winners are selected and awarded prizes.
3. Papers nominated for the contest have to be the results of study done in this country that have not been awarded other prizes (those having won other prizes are eligible for the contest). The first author is to be the participant of co-authored papers. There is no limit to the age of the participant. Other qualifications for the contest are as follow:
1. Entries of the Members category have to be Association members.
2. Entries of the Residents category have to be papers or case analysis written during residency (including chief residents).
3. Grading of the Groups category is done by adding up the points earned by individual hospitals from all the papers it contributed to medical journals. The points earned are 3 for commentaries, 3 for originals, 2 for case analysis, and 1 for case reports.
4. Ranks of papers of the Members and Residents categories are decided by the review members commissioned by the board of directors and supervisors of the Association. Ranks of papers of the Groups category are decided by the Journal Committee (Review Members are to be re-appointed when Director-General is reelected). Awarding of prizes as follows:
